IOM DG Address to International Conference in Ashgabat
«IOM is fully committed to advance the New Agenda for peace to accelerate the attainment of the SDGs in places where it is lagging – particularly in conflict affected and fragile States. To this effect, IOM will leverage its analytical tools, expertise in community-based planning, operational capacity to deliver assistance in unstable contexts across the HDP Nexus and migration management, to help the UN system gain a better understanding of the underlying drivers of conflict and propose meaningful steps to manage emerging risks», said IOM Director General Antonio Vitorino in his video address to the International Conference “Dialogue is the Guarantee of Peace” organized by MFA Turkmenistan and UN in Ashgabat on 11 Dec 2022. The conference was dedicated to the 27th Anniversary of declaration of Permanent Neutrality Status of Turkmenistan. It was attended by high ranking and senior officials of governments and parliaments of Central Asian states, UN Agencies, ambassadors and representatives of international and diplomatic corps based in Ashgabat.
IOM Sub-Regional Coordinator for Central Asia Zeynal Hajiyev also made a statement during the thematic session “Strengthening food and environmental security through dialogue” by highlighting key areas of cooperation between IOM and Turkmenistan with a specific focus on strengthening Turkmenistan’s national capacities to address the issues of climate change and disaster risks.
