Training on IOM Migration Crisis Operational Framework, 5-6 of April, Astana, Kazakhstan

Astana – 30.03.16 – On the 5-6 of April the International Organization for Migration in cooperation with the Minister of the Interior of Kazakhstan will host a training on “IOM Migration Crisis Operational Framework (MCOF)”. Venue: Astana, 22 Beibitshilik str. Department of the Emergency Situation in Astana.

Participating at the meeting are 45 officials from local authorities in East Kazakhstan, Kyzylorda, Mangistau, Dzhambyl and South Kazakhstan as well as international and national experts. The purpose of this event is to strengthen the capacity of local authorities on MCOF as a migration management tool in the context of Disaster risk reduction (DRR).

MCOF allows IOM to support its Member States and partners to better respond to the assistance and protection needs of crisis-affected populations, including displaced persons and international migrants stranded in their destination/transit countries.  The MCOF seeks to ensure that a comprehensive preparedness and response structure is designed to address current vulnerabilities, potential vulnerabilities and the recovery from the effects of such a crisis.

The event is organized within the framework of the IOM program “Strengthening Climate Change Adaptation Support and Emergency Response Capacity in the Regions with Trans-boundary Water Resources in Kazakhstan,” funded IOM Development Fund.   The project builds in previous activities that IOM has organized the   Regional Training on “Migration Management and Capacity Building on Irregular Migration” held  in Almaty, Kazakhstan, April 1, 2015 and the Regional Forum on “International Cooperation in the area of Migration and Emergency Preparedness”, held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan (17-18 June, 2015).
