Regional Training on “Media and Communication” to be held on 14-15 June, 2017, in Almaty, Kazakhstan
On 14-15 June, 2017, the International Organization for Migration (IOM)/the UN Migration Agency, Sub-Regional Coordination Office for Central Asia, will organize a regional training in Almaty (Kazakhstan), on Media and Communication for IOM Central Asia staff and journalists.
The training will be conducted by JOE LOWRY, IOM expert on Media and Communication from IOM Vienna, IOM Regional Office for South-Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The overall objective of the training is to share best practices and provide tools on how to address and report key topics and issues on migration, according to IOM reporting standards.
The training will involve theoretical and practical cases in order to comprehend proper and accurate reporting on migration issues. In addition, the participants will be familiarized with IOM activities and IOM media campaigns in the region.
During the workshops and discussions, the following topics will be analyzed and presented: writing a press note, meeting Media and Migrants’ needs when reporting about migration related news, tips for interview and photography, the role and advantages of social media, and IOM communication tools.
