Legal assistance to migrant workers in Karagandy
IOM organizes legal assistance to migrant workers in Karagandy
On January 19th, 2012 IOM organized an exchange visit between lawyers of the Migrants’ Support Center in Astana and newly opened point in Karagandy to share experience on free legal aid to migrant workers. The representatives of local NGOs and IOM discussed the current migration trends in Kazakhstan and the two cities in particular.
The visit was organized within the framework of Central Asia Regional Migration Programme one of the components of which aims to provide the free legal assistance to migrant workers and members of their families. Migrants’ Support Centers in Astana, Aktobe, Almaty, Shymkent provide counseling on legal and social issues through hot line and individual/group mobile consultations. From the launch of the programme in spring 2010 the assistance was rendered to more than eight thousand to migrants and members of their families.
