On July 23, 2012 IOM and Fund of local communities conducted training for 25 farmers of Shelek settlement of Almaty region on migration issues and migrants’ rights in order to prevent labor exploitation. Participants of a workshop learned about Russian experience in an organized recruitment based on the activities of Ural House (Yekaterinburg). The farmers discussed Kazakhstan’s draft law on patents for migrants and proposed to take into consideration the feature of migrants’ remuneration of labor employed in agriculture at the time of issuing the patent. Most of migrants working on the fields are actually coming from Kyrgyz Republic. The Department of employment within Almaty oblast akimat expressed its views on the current rules on foreign labor attraction and migration police officials responded to the questions regarding the Agreement that became effective between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyz Republic on the status of migrants staying for the period of 90 days.
