International Round table on “Human Rights - the basis of harmonious development of Society and State”
On the December, 10th 2015 the Commission on Human Rights under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan organized an International Round table on “Human Rights - the basis of harmonious development of Society and State” devoted to the International Day of Human Rights. Participants to the Roundtable were Diplomatic Missions, International Organizations, Government agencies and civil society.
As Mrs. Tatiana Hadjiemmanuel, Deputy Coordinator for Central mentioned during the meeting: “The Commission on Human Rights under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan is a longstanding partner of IOM’s work in Kazakhstan and the Central Asia region. IOM has partnered with the Commission on Human Rights in producing two solid Special reports addressing migrants’ rights in 2014, and the rights of Victims of Trafficking in 2015 funded by the IOM Development Fund. Through these reports IOM worked closely with the Commission to identify the gaps and challenges that Kazakhstan needed to address and provided remedial recommendations for the way forward. Both special reports form a solid base of the government’s willingness to continue working with the international community adhering and adopting recommendations based on international good practices. Kazakhstan pioneers in addressing migrants’ rights with its counterparts in Central Asia. Human rights of migrants is a cross cutting theme in all areas that IOM engages globally and in Central Asia; it is a topic that is researched, presented, debated and discussed extensively throughout IOM’s regional programmes in Central Asia and under the Almaty Process, Chaired by the Government of Kazakhstan.
