Human Rights and Ethical Recruitment Training to be held on 12-13 June, 2017, in Almaty, Kazakhstan

On 12-13 June, 2017, The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Dignity and Rights project implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is conducting a training in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on Human Rights and Ethical Recruitment based on IOM’s International Recruitment and Integrity System (IRIS).

IRIS is a voluntary multi-stakeholder certification system for labour recruiters developed to support ethical recruitment of migrant workers. It is comprised of an international standard, a certification scheme, and a compliance and monitoring mechanism. For businesses and migrant workers, IRIS serves as a due diligence tool for the assessment of labour recruiters. For more information about IRIS, please visit IRIS website at http://iris.iom.int/what-iris.The training will focus on the following points: the specific factors of labour mobility that make migrant workers more vulnerable to abuse; the impacts of unethical recruitment on workers, families, employers, and communities; the role/need for international cooperation in order to address issues of international labour recruitment; the different models by which labour mobility tends to operate; and the mechanisms (including IRIS) designed to address unethical recruitment.

The training is intended for:

  • Representatives of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan,
  • Embassies and consulates;
  • Local government representatives;
  • Local NGOs;
  • Private sector representatives
  • Academia ;
  • UN Agencies.

The main goal of the training is to enhance the potential of governmental and non-governmental partners in an approach to labour migration, which is based on human rights observance.
