Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA)
Astana – On October 5, in anticipation of the 30th anniversary of the initiative to convene the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), IOM’s Immigration and Border Management unit from the Regional Office in Vienna, Austria, visited the CICA Secretariat in Astana, Kazakhstan. During the meeting, parties highlighted the importance of strengthening the cooperation in the field of Border Management Data Sharing on illicit travel practices among CICA Member States. In particular, it is agreed that the IOM in-house platform on document examination data collection (DESC), that has already been joined by 6 CICA member states and shortly will be strengthened with the joining of Kazakhstan, should be introduced also to other countries of the CICA region as a platform for cooperation among law enforcement agencies on fraudulent document and impostor interception. This type of data sharing and related statistics will assist Law Enforcement at borders to target interception and increase the efficiency of secondary line control, overall countering organized crime and improving security in the CICA region.
