Astana, 23 June 2014 – on 26 June 2014 IOM organizes a National Dialogue "Access to social services for victims of cruel treatment, including victims of trafficking and domestic violence, in Kazakhstan".
The National Dialogue is organized by the Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Kazakhstan, the National Human Rights Commission under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the ULE "Union of Crisis Centers of Kazakhstan."
The dialogue takes place within the framework of the National Action Plan of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Combating Trafficking in Persons for 2012-2014 (section 3. Seminars, roundtables to discuss access of victims of trafficking to special social services) and includes discussions of a wide range of issues related to the recent amendments to the Law On Special Social Services adopted by the Government of Kazakhstan in February 2014, which includes the provision of assistance to citizens in difficult situations as a result of cruel treatment leading to social exclusion and deprivation.
State policy on the provision of social services is based on ensuring equal access to services for all people in difficult situations. During the dialogue, experts will present a draft document which will outline special social services for victims of cruel treatment, including victims of trafficking and domestic violence. Representatives of relevant ministries, NGOs and international agencies will participate in the discussion.
